Not what, but who do you know?... Dr. Jill Perry-Smith of Emory University will focus on understanding social network analysis and its impact on our own professional networks, as well as the super and supra networks that impact our levels of visibility, spheres of influence and overall career advancement.  This session requires that we enter with an understanding of the major (and minor) players in our organization at the personal, departmental and institutional levels.  In preparation for this session, Dr. Perry-Smith has asked us to STRONGLY consider preparing a list of names (first names are adequate) of the major and minor personalities that impact our career livelihoods…and bring the list with you to this session. This session will serve to highlight professional connections, how best to use such connections to explain interpersonal phenomena in our daily interactions, and, most importantly, to be open to strategies for manipulating these connections to our advantage.
